Known as Samsung S8300 UltraTOUCH or simply Tocco Ultra depending on the market, the latest touch phone by Samsung comes in the slider form factor. Beside the killer looks and slim profile of only 12.7mm, the specs sheet of the Samsung S8300 continues with a 2.8" capacitive OLED touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera and a GPS-receiver with Route 66 navigation
It's been exactly one year since the first time one of the big-five phone manufacturers announced a fully touch-operated slider. The Samsung S8300 takes over from where the LG KF700 left off and attempts a huge leap forward.

While the LG KF700 wasn't that popular, the Samsung S8300 seems ready to go that extra length. It is the key product for Samsung for the first half of this year and we are almost as curious as you are to see if it appeals to the phone-buying public

The Samsung S8300 UltraTOUCH looks quite nice in the flesh and we have to admit that we are rather fond of the metallic frame around the display.in dark it looks beautiful with flash.

The Samsung S8300 touchscreen phone comes with TouchWIZ technology which has a Widgets feature that enables users to have a selection of widget style mini applications open on its home screen. It comes with 18 Widgets built-in.
Samsung S8300 touchscreen mobile phone offers a full touch navigation experience allowing widgets with ‘drag and drop’ technology which makes the experience of using the phone highly interactive and easy.

A whole variety of widgets are available, which users can activate by swiping of a finger, which displays information from the phone, accessing images, music and other content and provide a quick way to access various functions in the handset.

8.0 MP Camera: Weighting just about 121 gms, the Samsung S8300 UltaTouch Touchscreen mobile phone features integrated 8.0 Megapixels CMOS based 5.70 mm focal length digital camera with 3264 x 2448 pixels image resolution and it offers Autofocus, 16X digital zoom and built-in LED flash light along with Image Stabilizer for blur-free camera experience. The Samsung Pixon M8800 Touchscreen mobile phone allows picture storage in standard JPEG format in handset memory or in extended memory. In addition, the digital camera also offers Photo effects and option for Photo quality settings while shooting still pictures. The camera is also equipped with dual LED flash Geotagging, face detection function, autodetect smile and blick detection, and panaroma shot. Additionally the camera is equipped with some more advanced features like image stabilizer (still and video capture) and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR).
The Samsung S8300 UltraTouch Touchscreen mobile handset is armed with mobile tracker feature that helps users track their phone in case they happen to lose it. In an event of being lost, stolen or misplaced, the Mobile Tracker feature sends an SMS prompt to a pre-determined number whenever the SIM card is changed thus improving chances of recovering the handset.

In addition, the Samsung S8300 Touchscreen mobilephone has a powerful internal speakerphone is included to give users a hands-free comfort. The handset also sports SRS Surround Sound System with virtual 5.1 channel support.

Sliding the phone open reveals the keypad. It is quite spacious with large enough keys for comfortable typing. Some additional bordering wouldn't have hurt the typing capabilities of the device but it is good enough as it stands now
The back of the S8300 UltraTOUCH hosts the 8 megapixel camera and its loyal companions - the LED flash and the self-portrait mirror. Those are of course only visible when the slider is open, which gives them some serious protection from scratches.

The general build quality of the S8300 UltraTOUCH is commendable. No creaks or other disturbing noises of any kind were heard throughout the time of our preview. The slider is also nicely done - as is usual for Samsung, it's smooth and stable.

Music playerThe music player of the Samsung S8300 hasn't been greatly altered from the M8800 Pixon. Some additional visual effects have been added but that's as far as the changes go.
The music player widget is cool, allowing quick access to the full version of the application by only a single tap. You can also start, stop and alternate tracks straight from the home screen if you prefer. A well deserved pat on the back also goes to the FM radio widget as well.

Last, but certainly not least, the player is nicely touch-optimized including fast forward and rewind, just like the Pixon. This adds up to an excellent music application that can fully replace your portable MP3 player

If you're looking for a multimedia mobile phone, the Samsung S8300 Tocco UltraTouch has all the makings of a great multimedia phone. The AMOLED screen makes watching vidoes enjoyable, sound quality is GREAT, picture quality is also great. What more do you need? WiFi? Well, yeah but what would you need WiFi for if you can't really use it for desktop browsing? The Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra Touch is a multimedia phone and a good one at that.

samsung m8800pixon

cellzon.in

Touchscreen phones are nothing new, though they were a rage two years back when there were few touchscsreens available in the market. Today however, there are lots of touchscreen models available in the market and that too over a varied price range. You could get one for as low as 8k or go as high as say 40k. My experience with touchscreens is that none offers anything exhilarating under 25k, but Samsung proved me wrong with their latest offering.Yes, I am referring to the M8800 aka the Pixon, another 8 MP camera phone by Samsung after the Innov8 (reviewed in 2008). While Innov8's price was a bit on the higher-side, the Pixon offers high-end features coupled with amazing performance for just around the 25k mark.

Samsung M8800 Pixon gets its kick from touchscreen and imaging and hopes to be the definitive cameraphone. The inspired TouchWiz interface and massive screen are the right gateway to getting the 8 megapixel camera and real high-end video unleashed. The Pixon obviously plays second fiddle to the INNOV8 in the Samsung portfolio but dares to challenge it in the imaging department. Picture this
Ergonomics and overall design of the phone is good; all controls are intuitively placed and fall right under the hand. Other than the dedicated call receive/end and menu buttons on the front, volume, gallery and shutter keys are placed on the right edge, while a hold key that locks the phone's display and a shortcut key for mini menu have been placed on the left. The center key under the display works as a back key and a press on the end call key takes you back to the main menu.
Key features:
  • 3.2" 256K-color TFT LCD touchscreen display of WQVGA resolution
  • 8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and lens protection
  • Camera geo-tagging, auto-panorama shot, face, smile and blink detection, digital image stabilization
  • WVGA video recording at 30fps
  • Slimmest 8MP phone
  • 3G with HSDPA support
  • Quad-band GSM support
  • GPS receiver
  • microSD card slot
  • DivX, XviD and MP4 video player
  • SRS (Surround Sound System) Virtual 5.1CH
  • TV out functionality
  • FM radio with RDS
  • Bluetooth and USB v2.0
  • 200 MB internal memory
  • Landscape on-screen virtual QWERTY keyboard
  • Accelerometer sensor
  • Multitasking
  • Office document viewer
  • ShoZu integration (direct image and video uploads)

Main disadvantages:

  • No Wi-Fi connectivity
  • No voice-guided GPS navigation
  • Stylus as dongle only, no stylus compartment
  • No smart dialing

The Pixon clearly belongs to one of the two schools of thought in the Samsung 5 to 8MP cameraphone sample. There the ironclad Soul-flavored devices rub shoulders with the huge touchscreens of the Tocco line.

The Pixon humbly gives the smart INNOV8 a bow of respect and suffices with topping the line of full-touch and multimedia gadgets. Now, given our admiration for the F480 Tocco, the Pixon can count on a fair and respectful welcome but that won't make us soft or too forgiving.

Those looking for a multimedia touchscreen phone, but don't need Wi-Fi connectivity can look at this. Else, at the same price, you can get the HTC Touch Diamond (powered by Windows Mobile 6.1), but it has a smaller screen and only a 3.2MP camera. Or you could also consider the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music for 19k MOP, which offers the same screen size, more connectivity features and runs the latest Symbian S60 v5 OS (although it only has a 3.2 MP camera).

Design and Build Quality:

The Samsung M8800 Pixon has a very nice and stylish design. It is officially the slimmest 8 MP camera phone available at a width of just 13.8 mm. The overall dimensions of 107.9 x 54.6 x 13.8 mm are very nice and ensure that the Samsung M8800 just 121 gms which is decent compared to the features it comes packed with. The full black body sports a clean and minimal design with just the huge screen in the front along with a few control buttons - Call, End and the earpiece, secondary cam and the ambient light sensor. The right side hosts the camera key, dedicated gallery key and the volume rocker. On the left, you find the hold key, shortcut menu key and the microSD card slot. The top features the connectivity port while the bottom sports the mouthpiece and the lanyard eyelet. On the back of the phone lies the star attraction - the 8 MP camera and the accompanying LED flash. The build quality of the M8800 is superb with the body made partly of metal and partly of plastic. The M8800 Pixon seems to be very durable and should easily last for more than a couple of years without any hiccups.

The Samsung Pixon will completely satisfy those who are tired of camera-phones which look like cameras but have only a passing resemblance to a camera’s functions.

Display:

The Samsung M8800 Pixon sports a 3.2? TFT touchscreen display which supports upto 262K colors and a WQVGA resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. The display quality is superb with great brightness and contrast levels. It produces vibrant images with rich colors. The sunlight legibility is also very nice. The touchscreen also performs upto expectations. It is very responsive and has superb sensitivity. The haptic feedback provided is good. The screen can also be calibrated to increase the accuracy.

User Interface:

The Samsung M8800 Pixon sports an improved version of the very famous TouchWiz UI earlier seen in the Samsung F480. The version in the M8800 Pixon is a very refined version with increased performance. It is fast and responsive, having cleared most of the problems that plagued the earlier version of TouchWiz. The UI on a whole is very intuitive and easy to use. It also supports multitasking wherein you can run many tasks simultaneously and switch between them. You can also customize your home screen with ‘widgets’.

The Samsung M8800 Pixon sports a range of connectivity features like GPRS Class 10, EDGE Class 10, 3G HSDPA 7.2 MBPS, USB v2.0 and Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP. It lacks Wi-Fi but that is understandable as it isn’t aimed at the business class.

The Pixon does its main job quite well - the call reception quality is great and the built in loudspeaker adequate for most instances. The volume is superb and the quality too. The Samsung M8800 Pixon is powered by a 1000 mAh Li ion battery which has a rated talk time of 3 hrs and 40 mins. It should easily last for about two days on a single charge with moderate usage.

HTC touch HD

cellzon.in

The HTC Touch HD gives you the best touch phone experience to date. Whether playing music or videos, downloading e-mails or navigating from A to B, the HTC Touch HD is the ultimate in
Windows Mobile PDA Phones.
A stunning 3.8" WVGA display and an ultrafast HSDPA connection to the Internet give a
Web-browsing experience which is fast, with less need for scrolling.

A 5-megapixel camera enables you to take high-resolution and high-quality images and video which can be replayed all from the handheld. What’s more, images are crisp and bright, with rich, deep colours.

A powerful business tool, the HTC Touch HD can handle all of your business applications. Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1, the HTC Touch HD allows you to load any custom or third-party software packages, if the built-in, contact and calendar applications do not offer the flexibility and functionality which you require.

Got a Word document which needs editing or a presentation you need to practise? Not a problem. The HTC Touch HD has Windows Mobile Office installed as standard, making you more productive when away from a desktop PC.

Features of HTC Touch HD.

  • 3.8-inch wide, WVGA (480 X 800 pixel) for a rich viewing experience
  • Vibrant TouchFLOTM 3D user for complete finger navigation of the main features including contacts, calendar, music and video.
  • Surf the web and download pages at broadband speed with HSDPA internet connectivity
  • GPS on board with Google maps offers street level navigation
  • 5 megapixel camera for quality stills and video
  • 3.5 mm audio jack makes the HTC HD compatible with the majority of audio equipment available
  • Bluetooth and WiFi for complete wireless connectivity to other devices and the internet or networks.

What's in the box of HTC Touch HD.

  • HTC Touch HD
  • 8GB microSDHC card AC Adapter
  • USB Cable
  • Stereo earphones with mic
  • Pouch Case
  • Battery (1350mAh)
  • Additional Stylus
  • Screen Protector
  • Getting Started CD
  • User Manual CD

This device screams minimalistic from all angles so don’t expect lots of hardware buttons. On the top we have a 3.5mm headphone socket, not recessed at all and fits all headphones with a 3.5mm jack, nice one HTC about time too. To the left of that we have a simple on/off button and a tiny green led which flashes when you have a missed call etc

The bottom has the mini USB charging port, this is not the normal HTC mini USB charging port as on this occasion all it supports is charging and connectivity to a PC etc, no audio headsets or TV Out functionality. Next to this is the small circular opening for the microphone.

The left hand edge of the phone has one long button however this is a rocker type button for the volume up and down controls. The right edge is totally free of anything but at the lowest point is the access for the stylus, this is similar to the HTC Diamond as it is magnetically drawn into position with a satisfying click when your done. Again when you remove the stylus the device is intelligent enough to know that you need the screen to come on, and come on it doesTechnical Specification of HTC Touch HD

The front of the phone has an ear piece speaker grille at the top centre, to the right of that is the front facing video call camera, under that is a fantastic 3.8″ 800 x 480 screen finished at the bottom with four touch sensitive symbols, I say symbols as they are not physical buttons but when selected give a haptic feedback buzz so you know you have activated them. The symbols are call, home, back and end. Strange omission is illumination of the buttons, you cannot see them in the dark and there is no back lighting at all.

The rear plate of the device is a two tone black with a raised brushed chrome effect camera lense housing which proudly announces a 5.0 mega pixel auto focus camera.
Under the cover we have the battery compartment, SIM Card slot and MicroSD card slot. The soft reset button is the small red button

home screen.

Lovely home screen with flip over clock, call history and up to three appointments shown, the dock is at the bottom of the screen with all the tabs for easy access via touch or pressing down on one of them and dragging left or right.

People and Messages

The People tab is where you can add quick dial numbers with pictures, click on a photo and you can easily access options to call, email,SMS, MMS etc. The messaging tab lets you flick through your recent text messages or create new ones.

mail & internet

The mail tab is very similar to the messaging tab but purely concentrates on email, here you have access to your email inboxes, I have three shown but they have no titles so you have to guess which one is which until you get to know their order, you can create new messages from here and also click individual messages which opens up the standard Windows Mobile Outlook screens. As this is a Windows Mobile device the email integration is top draw with support for full HTML email and if you have an Exchange account, push email, contacts and agenda all work flawlessly. This is where Windows Mobile excels.

The Internet tab has quick access to the pre-installed Opera 9.5 Browser, YouTube application and favourite bookmarks. The browser works well and renders pages as fast as the iPhones’s Safari browser but I found the interface mainly due to the resistive screen to be harder to use, maybe practice will change my perspective. When your used to pinching and expanding two figures to zoom in and out having to pull up a toolbar and a slider to do the same does not seem as natural to me. The browser although being a newer version than the one seen on the HTC Diamond or the Touch Pro still has no support for Flash.

Google Maps, no street view as yet but again the screen shows this application in the best possible light, full satellite imagery in glorious 800 x 480 resolution looks simply stunning, GPS seemed to work fine for me without any of the lag problems others are reporting. I also loaded up TomTom and a free map and tested the GPS and all seemed perfectly fine to me, no different from the stand alone version I have and it kept up without any noticeable lag

Settings and Programs.

The settings tab gives you easy access to various system settings as well as a new option which allows you to change the order and display options of the tabs themselves, a nice addition.Programs is a simple but highly effective launch grid where you can add shortcuts to your most used programs, simply click on a free space and it opens a list of installed programs, select the one you want and it appears on the grid, reminds me of an iPhone home screen and is very usable

Other additional software over and above the Windows Mobile core worth mentioning is the YouTube application, this like the iPhone gives you access to flash based YouTube videos as the browser cannot handle them. You can search for videos easily as well as look at featured or most watched, a menu allows you to select them based on various different viewing options. Once selected the screen flips to landscape and the video is streamed, works very well over WiFi or HSDPA

Sound Quality
Being able to use a 3.5mm set of headphones is a major plus as we no longer have to use stock headphones or buy adaptors and it also gives you the option to try out the device’s sound quality with a good pair, I have a set of Bose in ear headphones and the sound playback through the device was very clear and had a lovely strong bass to it, volume was not the highest even at maximum for me but that is my preference as I love my music loud and always have to up the gain in iTunes before synching to my iPhone so I can get some extra volume. All in all very nice sound quality.
